Consultant, please conduct seated interview. Period of intended Employment: 3/1/2024-11/30/2024.Location: Burbank, Washington. Applicant \"MUST HAVE\" 3 months of experience. Job Duties :This is a job description for a Farm workers/laborers. Crops: Apples, cherries, and grapes (trees and vines).TRACTOR DRIVER: Specific individuals who have experience in driving tractors may be asked to help periodically in a variety of tractor driving activities. This could involve pulling a trailer to move objects such as trellis supplies, pulling a mower for cover crop control, pulling a sprayer for the application of agricultural chemicals, utilizing a tractor with a bin trailer and Three-point forks to move bins in the orchard to accommodate the picker. SPRAYER: The worker will operate a tractor with a mechanical sprayer attached containing Pesticides /fertilizers used during the crop growing process. This task is under the direction of the Equipment/Spray Supervisor. Spray applicators mix into a spray tank and apply pesticides using the provided equipment. They must be capable of loading and transporting pesticides , fertilizer and water via tractors or water trucks. Oversees compliance with label requirements; responsible for the safe storage and use of pesticides in conformance with all regulations. WPS handler training will be completed after the start of employment. (Any sprayer activity would be under the supervision of a licensed spray applicator.) Additional tasks include: Operate other farm equipment as needed (ATV,UTV, Forklift, Platforms) Maintain work area, chemical storage area, and equipment in a condition that promotes good safety practices including daily equipment inspections. Protection equipment (PPE) required for each work activity, per label requirement. Workers may drive company vehicles to transport crops, supplies, tools, or farm workers if the workers have a valid drivers license from either a state in the U.S. or their native country. The drivers license is not a pre-hire job requirement. They may drive workers from living quarters to worksites and vice versa and provide one weekly trip to workers to purchase groceries. GENERAL ORCHARD: Cares for trees and vines throughout the growing season: 1. Props or ties Tree/ Vine branches or limbs to the Trellis system as needed. a. Removal of damaged trees or vines due to weather events 2. Maintains planting fields: a. Establishes and maintains new plantings and preps land by removal of existing trees and trellis systems. i. Planting new trees or grapevines in open fields ii. Planting new trees or grapevines in existing fields b. Weeding, hoeing, clearing brush, clearing cuttings, clearing tumbleweeds, trunk painting, spreading fertilizer by hand. c. Mowing grass or weeds d. Raking and digging 3. Maintains irrigation system. a. Operate a variety of irrigation systems including changing, operating, or repairing valves to meet crop needs based on environmental/climatic changes as instructed. b. Repair sprinklers on overhead cooling system, drip systems, and under tree systems including plugs, broken heads, or broken pipes/lines. GENERAL ORCHARD - Job Duties continued below: 4. General labor to include: a. Clearing property of plants and other vegetative material b. Clearing property of irrigation and trellising materials including sorting these materials by size, type, and condition. c. Repairing trellis structures or irrigation lines as instructed. d. Spreading compost, straw, soil, or other organic materials using rakes or shovels. e. Farm clean-up tasks include picking up garbage around the orchard, removing old string and wire from trellis and orchard blocks, and other farm labor tasks. f. Deploy and remove reflective material from within rows. g. Deploy and close shade cloth. h. Apply or remove etting. i. Trapping pests THINNING: Thinning is a manual process used to control the size and quality of fruit. Laborers will use their hands or small tools to remove blossoms, buds, or small fruit from within clusters. Laborers must be able to visually identify and remove fruit that is misshapen, damaged or has other quality problems, as directed by supervisors. Thinning may be performed from a motorized platform, from a 1012-foot ladder the employee erects, or from the ground. The Laborer must possess the ability to pick up, carry, erect, and climb a ladder up to 10-12 feet in length, weighing up to 40 pounds, to perform the work. TRAINING: Training is a process in which the tree branches are tied to a trellis wire using tape or wire, or clipped to the ground, or otherwise shaped using spreaders or other small wood and metal tools. Specific examples of training activities are as follows: Tying, taping, or clipping apple/cherry limbs and grapevines to wires or tapes. Tying up or down apple/cherry limbs and grapevines using string or tape. Training and limb positioning of apple/cherry trees and grapevines. Scoring limbs with a blade near a bud to help promote branching. Shoot thinning, sucker removal, cluster thinning, shoot positioning, hedging, or leaf removal.
