The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for designing, ordering, assembling, testing, implementing, and approving manufacturing tooling and fixtures used in Electronic Assembly for manufacturing purposes. The selected individual will support all factories in managing tooling processes and applying/adhering to standards created for tooling and fixtures as to maintain a high level of quality and workmanship for all products produced.

  • Function as Electronic Assembly tooling design expert for all manufacturing equipment worldwide.

  • Assist in developing and supporting capable and repeatable manufacturing processes.

  • Ability to coordinate and implement solutions with cross functional engineering and manufacturing teams.

  • Be the liaison between all Electronic Assembly manufacturing factories and Product Development Engineering to continue to improve both the tooling and processes for a more manufacturable product.

  • Coordinate with Product Development Engineering on product improvement changes and new product introductions.

  • Have creative ability to come up with multiple solutions in areas of tooling and automation concepts.

  • Develop and update tooling design standards.

  • Assist with the testing of prototype designs from a manufacturability and tooling design perspective.

  • Work with suppliers to formulate more reliable tooling and equipment solutions.

  • Recommend process improvements to streamline product flow and be responsible for implementation of process improvements/lean manufacturing concepts within all factories.

  • Work effectively as a team member, work with little supervision, be flexible to help when and where needed, and communicate effectively with customers and team members.

  • Consistently complete quality work in a timely manner.

  • Have ability to create and present detailed implementation plans for tooling.

  • Ability to interact with a variety of manufacturing and engineering employees in a positive, professional manner.

  • Perform other duties as assigned and needed to meet customer and/or department expectations.

    Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Mechanical Engineering major preferred. Other degrees may be considered depending on applicant’s experience.

  • Creo Parametric 3D CAD software experience or similar.

  • Microsoft Office software experience.

  • Effectively exercise discretion and independent judgment.

  • Beneficial:

  • Ability to design and implement advanced automation concepts.

  • Understanding of soldering processes is a plus.

  • Knowledge of Lean concepts.

  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal. Communicate effectively in a team environment.

  • Physical Requirements include:

  • The ability to lift and carry heavy (up to 45 pounds) and/or awkward items.

  • Must be able to stand and/or sit for the full shift and have full range of motion as required for the position.

  • Required to distinguish and identify colors (wires, paint, etc.) as it pertains to the position.

  • Work with some odors associated with a manufacturing environment (paint, solder, welding, coating, etc.).

  • Follow all safety guidelines in respective work areas including wearing respective equipment as required. Items may include the following: safety glasses, safety shoes/boots, hearing protection, protective garments, etc.

  • Ability to travel by air and ground. Valid driver’s license and good driving record. Motor vehicle record will be checked.

  • Ability to travel to domestic and international locations.

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
