Academy Sports + Outdoors Procurement Lead in Katy, Texas

The Procurement Lead will develop and manage category procurement and sourcing strategies. Responsibilities include negotiation, contracting, implementation and ongoing supplier management for continuous improvement. On an ongoing basis, the Procurement Sourcing Specialist monitors, analyzes and integrates changes to the internal business requirements and external supply market drivers that can impact future business performance for the assigned spend category and modifies the sourcing strategy accordingly.

Job Description:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field of study, Supply chain or engineering, or equivalent years of related work experience required.

Work Experiences:

  • At least five years related work experience required.

Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal, written, verbal communication and presentation skills, with the ability to interface effectively with individuals at various levels, including senior management

  • Advanced organizational skills required to mitigate risk and meet multiple deadlines in frequently changing the environment

  • Expertise in conducting supplier negotiations

  • Ability to analyze, articulate, and solve complex problems and concepts to make effective business decisions

  • Responds positively to change, embracing and using new practices or values to accomplish goals and solve problems

  • Ability to develop and execute strategic category goals

  • Financial acumen to develop complex financial models, including Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and should cost models

  • Lead with integrity and able to propel a team toward the completion of goals within both a traditional and matrix environment

  • Ability to measure Key Performance Indicators, analyze results, formulate and implement corrective action plans

  • Proficiency with procurement toolsets, including eSourcing, spend cube, project / savings trackers

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills preferred

Responsibilities:

  • Support Category Manager by identifying and maintaining relationships with major category suppliers and industry analysts gathering insight to better understand suppliers’ key differentiation, technology road-maps and business modes with the goal of identifying opportunities to improve the overall quality and delivery of products and services

  • Negotiate with suppliers using fact-based approach and market insights driven from cost modeling, commodity impacts and competition to achieve financial benefits.

  • Identify new suppliers and develop suppliers that achieve Category sourcing strategy and adhere to Academy's ethical standards

  • Develop a business partner relationship with business unit leadership to deliver insightful and innovative solution recommendations that solve complex business challenges

  • Develop a detailed understanding of the assigned category and serve as the source of category insight, content and process knowledge to support category related business requirements

  • Identify and maintain relationships with major suppliers to ensure inclusion of the appropriate suppliers in the right opportunities for the maximum benefit
