Information Technology Director Job Description

Class Summary/Primary Function

The primary function of an employee in this class is to perform a variety of technical management duties relating to the operation and maintenance of the computer operating systems and supporting infrastructure for the County.

The work is performed under the direct supervision of the County Commissioners. The principal duties of the position are performed in a general office environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Ensures the confidentiality, integrity, availability, and security of the system and data.

Provides strategic long- and short-term planning and implementation of information technology, infrastructure, and associated systems.

Analyzes workflow of departments and develops and implements changes in systems to maximize efficiency.

Develops and implements annual department budget.

Manages vendor contracts and service agreements.

Manages the operation, installation, and maintenance of computer hardware and software.

Supervises the installation and configuration of network servers, routers, switches, personal computers, and peripherals.

Performs network administration duties.

Develops, proposes, and implements County Information Technology policies and procedures related to the use of computer equipment as well as software.

Designs, implements, and manages information technology projects.

Evaluates new technology and recommends changes and upgrades.

Provides technical advice, support, and training to system users.

Reviews specifications and proposals for system upgrades and additions.

Troubleshoots and repairs network-related issues.

Provide after-hours support for the County Sheriffs Office.

Performs time management and scheduling functions, meets deadlines, and sets project priorities.

Responds to questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner.

Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with County policies, procedures, and safety practices.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Proficient in latest technology for IT systems and management

Proficient in Microsoft 365 administration

Experience with virtualization

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

Excellent analytical and management skills

Thorough understanding of information technology and practical applications to support organizational objectives.

Help Desk Management

Knowledge of Project Management principles.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelors degree in information technology, computer science or related field or equivalent career experience.

Three years computer systems administration experience
