The Mixed Reality Defense Team as part of the Experience + Devices organization at Microsoft is at the forefront of revolutionizing military training and operations. The Mixed Reality Defense Team is hiring an experienced Network and Communications Software Quality Engineering Lead to join a dynamic product team which works on cutting edge technology tailored to the real-world challenges soldiers face.

As a Software Quality Engineering Lead , you will be responsible for leading a team of test engineers in the design, development, and execution of comprehensive test plans to ensure the quality and reliability of our network and communications software products. The work you do will be with the goal of saving lives and bringing service members home safely.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the development and implementation of test strategies for network and communications software, including both manual and automated testing.

  • Collaborates with software developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to understand product requirements and develop effective test plans.

  • Oversees the creation and maintenance of detailed test documentation, including test cases, test scripts, and test reports.

  • Manages the test environment setup, including configuration of network hardware and software components.

  • Analyzes test results, identify issues and trends, and provide actionable insights to improve product quality.

  • Drives continuous improvement in the testing process through the adoption of new tools, technologies, and methodologies.

  • Mentors and develops team members, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years of experience in software testing, with a focus on network and communications products AND with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience in test automation tool test management software and defect tracking systems.

  • Experience with Linux, Windows OS and networking facilities, network protocols, communication systems, and related technologies.

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Citizenship & Citizenship Verification: This role will require access to information that is controlled for export under export control regulations, potentially under the U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations or Export Administration Regulations, the EU Dual Use Regulation, and/or other export control regulations. As a condition of employment, the successful candidate will be required to provide proof of citizenship, U.S. permanent residency, or other protected status (e.g., under 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3)) for assessment of eligibility to access the export-controlled information. To meet this legal requirement, and as a condition of employment, the successful candidate’s citizenship will be verified with a valid passport.   • Citizenship & Citizenship Verification: This position requires verification of citizenship due to citizenship-based legal restrictions. Specifically, this position supports United States federal, state, and/or local government agency customers and is subject to certain citizenship-based restrictions where required or permitted by applicable law. To meet this legal requirement, and as a condition of employment, the successful candidate’s citizenship will be verified with a valid passport.

  • Cloud Screening statement: Candidates must be able to successfully complete and pass a Microsoft Cloud background screening. Required Cloud Screenings will be administered on a recurring bi-annual basis

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certifications such as ISTQB, CTFL, or equivalent.

  • Experience with cloud-based testing environments and services.

  • Familiarity with amateur radio operations or a technician license.

  • Previous military experience (ARMY 25H or equivalent).

Software Quality Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
