SALT LAKE COMMUNITY COLLEGE Director, Employee Relations in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah

At Salt Lake Community College (SLCC), we value our people and strive to be a great place to work. The People & Workplace Culture (PWC) team is looking for our next strategic Employee Relations leader. The Director for Employee Relations will lead our Employee Relations team to support our employees and supervisors across SLCC. This leader will collaborate in the formulation and implementation of College policy and long-range PWC programs and plans. They will build and maintain strong partnerships with college leaders of all levels to ensure alignment of priorities and effective integration of programs and services. The director must be skillful at resolving highly complex and/or sensitive employee and labor relations issues while leading and supporting a team of strategic trusted advisers for Salt Lake Community College.

The director must be an equity-minded practitioner able to to call attention to patterns of inequity in outcomes. They must demonstrate a willingness to take personal and institutional responsibility for the success of our students and employees, and critically reassess their own practices. They must be knowledgeable about the social and historical context of the exclusionary practices in American Higher Education and demonstrate willingness to engage in the necessary, and sometime difficult, conversations and decision-making that can lead to transformational change in learning and achievement.

Leadership

- - Serve as leader within People & Workplace Culture team; role modeling creation of a positive workplace culture. - Supervise Employee Relations and FMLA/ADA Coordinators, including but not limited to training, monitoring quality of investigations, delegating work assignments and projects, ensuring timely completion of work assignments and projects, coaching, and evaluating. - Share responsibility for creating a positive work environment within the PWC department and for providing an excellent customer service experience to the College community.

 

 

Employee Relations

  • Investigate and determine validity of employee misconduct claims or violations of collective bargaining agreements and College policies and procedures.
  • Lead investigation processes consistent with policy or law, including thoroughly researching and analyzing information, objectively evaluating the information, collaborating with College stakeholders and other PWC employees in the completion of investigations, as needed.
  • Prepare evidence, drafting communications, and coordinating meetings related to the employee disciplinary process.
  • Develop and maintain positive professional relationships with faculty, administration, and staff.
  • Update and improve employee relations processes, developing investigative techniques and forms.
  • Update College policies and procedures and handbooks related to employees, employment matters and working environment.
  • Maintain confidential information regarding employee relations regarding job performance, personal conduct, and disciplinary actions for full and part time staff, faculty, and administrators.
  • Keep appropriate notes and records of interviews and conversations with employees and supervisors.
  • Advise management on matters related to issues College wide reg arding the workplace and referring discrimination and sexual harassment to the Director of EEO for investigation.

Consultation & Coaching

  • Provide counsel, coaching, and support to supervisors on performance management, disciplinary/conduct related concerns, and workplace conflict -- to include mediation, facilitation of meetings, and management of the grievance process.
  • Facilitate discussions between supervisor and employees in attempt to reconcile differences and to administer appropriate follow-up.
  • Ensure conflict resolution and the timely processing of employee relations issues, in luding informal resolution of issues if appropriate.
  • Mediate the resolution of issue.
  • Guide individuals and teams on how to effectively address and resolve workplace concerns.

Support and partner with PWC team in other duties as determined necessary to achieve department goals.
