Amazon Lab Engineer, Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) in Sunnyvale, California

Description

As a Lab Engineer, you will be working on prototyping Amazon's new exciting products. You will be hands-on in designing, fabricating fixtures, panel building, operating lab equipment and maintaining lab space.

Key job responsibilities

  • Design, set up and maintain assembly fixtures to build products

  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, controls systems as part of assembly machines

  • Knowledgeable in Industrial communication protocols i.e., Ethernet/IP, MODbus, EtherCAT etc., and electrical components

  • Contribute to engineering efforts from design to implementation, solving complex technical challenges around engineering

  • Drive adoption of best practices in lab prototyping

  • Manage equipment stock, procure lab equipment

  • Participate in lab on-call rotation to ensure lab equipment uptime meets SLA

  • Provide lab services to people working remotely (be the eyes and hands in the lab)

  • Provide technical support to customers using the lab

A day in the life

The successful applicant will be experienced in keeping technical infrastructure running smoothly and balancing high priority issues. You should be comfortable taking on ambiguous challenges like setting up new pre-production hardware for the first time. You should be able to define standard operating procedures, metrics and alarms to keep the infrastructure highly available and expand technical capabilities over time. You will be invaluable to enabling the team to move quickly and confidently with robust infrastructure that scales with our customers.

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience in manufacturing or lab operations

  • Experience in organizing and maintaining manufacturing shop floor or lab facility

  • Experience in resource planning, managing schedules, reporting project status

  • Manage your own time and work well both independently and as part of a team.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and an ability to interact efficiently with peers and customers.

  • Highly organized and autonomous, very detail oriented and willing to learn new skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of non-internship professional experience in any of the following: lab support, manufacturing, maintenance, operational hardware support.

  • 5+ years experience organizing and maintaining stock of critical equipment, prototype devices for building and troubleshooting.

  • 5+ years experience in project management skills including resource planning, managing schedules, reporting project status and prioritizing own tasks and those of other team members for multiple projects.

  • Expertise in Electrical systems, controls networking in industrial equipments or lab environment.

  • Experience in communicating with cross-functional teams, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements, evaluate alternatives and develop processes and tools as needed to support the organization

  • Experience in developing/maintaining/troubleshooting automation equipment

  • Experience with control systems and electro-mechanical devices

  • Experience in organizing and maintaining lab environment or similar by applying 5S principles

  • Experience in the use of standard lab test equipment (i.e., oscilloscopes, multimeters, etc.)

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $79,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $189,900/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
