The Dewitt Companies Lead Mechanic in Tamuning, Guam

Dewitt Guam has immediate openings for a dependable, qualified, and experienced Lead Mechanic. The Lead Mechanic will oversee fleet repairs at DeWitt Guam, perform skilled mechanical work on a range of vehicles and equipment, handle preventive maintenance, schedule daily tasks, manage inventory and records, and perform technical duties in the assigned area.

SUPERVISON RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general supervision from higher level management. You will exercise direct supervision over the company shop, and shop employees. You will manage employees with the following title: Mechanics, Mechanic Helpers and Lube Technicians.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Organize and Supervise the work of technical and nontechnical staff in your department.

  • Create and maintain service and maintenance schedules

  • Schedule appointments with departments and outside agencies for vehicle service.

  • Determine and coordinate daily work priorities for shop.

  • Generate computerized repair orders and track progress through completion

  • Ensure timesheets of employees in shop are complete and accurate.

  • Perform mechanical duties including troubleshooting, diagnosing, determining the extent of repairs needed, and repairing gasoline, diesel powered and other power-driven equipment

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance while equipment is in the shop.

  • Install decals and numbers on units; fabricate and install specialized equipment on units, when necessary and with proper approval.

    LEAD MECHANIC DUTIES AND EXPECTATIONS

  • Tune up engines by replacing ignition parts; recondition and adjust carburetors and fuel injection systems, etc.

  • Repair, adjust and replace brake systems including wheel cylinders, masters’ cylinders, disc pads, machine drums / rotors, and hydraulic / air brakes.

  • Weld, fabricate and assemble parts and equipment as needed.

  • Fabricate and modify tools as needed.

  • Maintain and repair shop equipment.

  • Clean and maintain assigned work area.

  • Dispose of hazardous materials according to established procedures.

  • Estimate time, materials, and equipment required for assigned jobs.

  • Order, track and maintain shop inventory, using computerized tracking system.

  • Submit budget requests and justification to supervisor for inclusion in the annual departmental budget.

  • Perform service calls on job sites.

  • Perform safety inspections on company vehicles and ensure all repairs have been completed.

  • Maintain and keep a written work history for each vehicle.

  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Environment: Shop environment; occasional field environment; exposure to noise, grease, smoke, fumes and gases.

Mobility: Incumbents require sufficient mobility to walk, stand, kneel, or bend for prolonged periods of time; heavy, moderate, or light lifting; and operate motorized equipment and vehicles.

Vision: Vision to properly diagnose mechanical problems, distinguish colors, and operate

assigned equipment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Mechanic/field work minimum of five (5) years (Heavy/Diesel)

  • Supervising Shop at least one (1) to two (2) years.

WORK HOURS:

  • Work hours will vary based on operational needs.

  • Work may be required on Holidays.

  • Additional tasks and work may be assigned at a later date
